Time of Use Fuel Cell Systems Incorporating Both Natural Gas and Electricity as Fuel Sources
http://www.FuelCellElectronics.com/public/gas-elec.html

When incorporating the Adapticom TOU Fuel Cell System on sites with the availability of natural gas, more flexibility can be built into the system. Since Hydrogen fuel can be extracted from Natural Gas to fuel the cell, the system can select from two sources of Hydrogen production.

During "off peak" hours it is expected to be more cost effective to create Hydrogen by using electricity from the utility to power an electrolyzer. However, depending on the price of natural gas at the time, it could be more cost effective at certain times to generate the Hydrogen from natural gas.

In addition, while it is expected that some Hydrogen gas would always be reserved in the system to produce electricity during power outages, the availbility of natural gas could allow the system to remain operable through extended (multiple day) outages of electric power. Secondly, in cases where the "post installation" usage had grown so large as to require more Hydrogen during peak hours than the system could electricallyt create during the off peak hours, natural gas could be used to make up the deficit and ensure constant availability of power from the cell.
