TOU - Fuell Cell, Broader Impacts
http://www.FuelCellElectronics.com/public/broaderimpact.html
Besides the monetary savings to the end user there are a variety of broad impacts from the implementation of a Fuel Cell TOU system:
- Taken to its ultimate conclusion an entire site could be run directly from one or more fuel cells with the only use of power from the
utility grid being that required to operate electrolyzers. Widespread use of such systems would result in virtually no peak demand
periods for the utilities.
- Since each site would store at least some amount of power in the form of the fuel cell gasses, it would no longer be necessary for the
utility to attempt to provide uninterrupted service. Service outages would be covered by the standby capacity of the
TOU Supplemental Fuel Cell Energy System
- Widespread use of such systems would result in a less centralized and a more "distributed" power system, which would be more resilient to
many problems.
There are also even broader impacts to society at large from the wide spread use of such a system:
- Prevalent use of the TOU Supplemental Fuel Cell Energy System would lower national demand for fossil fuels and decrease dependence on foreign energy sources.
- Since the system is environmentally friendly, environmental pollution would be reduced
- Use of the system in residential and commercial settings would promote familiarity with fuel cell technology, leading to greater acceptance
and lower equipment prices and generally advance research in the area. Such acceptance would help fuel cell technology make inroads in other markets.
- One of the difficulties with the integration of Fuel Cell technology into vehicles is the method for refueling. To reverse the on board
fuel cell on a vehicle to create the Hydrogen fuel
would certainly take a long time in comparison to today's quick trip to the gas pump. If the residential fuel cell system was built with adequate
capacity and safety features, the needed Hydrogen fuel could be pulled from that source.
Once the TOU Supplemental Fuel Cell Energy System is in production, it is the intent of Adapticom to focus company efforts towards improvements to the fuel cell
itself in order to provide increased efficiency and safety. In addition, we wish to further promote the use of Solar Power as an energy source for
the system.
Currently several companies are marketing fuel cells as generating devices. However, none possess the sophisticated electronic controls associated
with this system. Several companies also make microcontroller based, load shedding, energy management devices. However, those devices are intended
to control loads, not control power sources.
